The Turkish Treasury said Monday that it posted a cash deficit of 3.7 billion Turkish lira ($2.42 billion) in January after TRY6.1 billion in interest payments.



The treasury's cash balance registered a deficit of TRY1.9 billion in the year-earlier period.



The treasury said it posted a primary cash surplus before interest payments of TRY2.3 billion in January, compared with a TRY1.84 billion surplus a year earlier.



In 2009 as a whole, the treasury posted a cash deficit of TRY49.4 billion.
